Reading Fire Department


The Reading Fire Department provides a full range of services to more than 11,000 people including fire suppression, emergency medical services, specialized rescue, hazardous materials response, and other emergency responses.

In addition, the department provides public education, fire prevention and educational programs to all ages within the city.

The department also conducts fire inspections, fire sprinkler and alarm plan reviews and fire investigations.

The RFD's 14 career personnel, 6 part-time personnel and 12 paid on-call personnel protect life, property, and the environment in pursuit of the Department's mission and vision.

Last year, the men and women of the RFD responded over 1500 times to come to the aid of their neighbors, overcoming a host of challenges to fullfill their pledge of:

The mission of the Reading Fire Department is to protect life, property, and the environment.

We will accomplish this with professional, knowledgeable, and dedicated personnel, using the allocated resoureces efficiently.

We pledge to deliver the highest quality of emergency medical services, fire suppression, public education, and fire prevention to meet the needs of our community.
