Public Works Department The Reading Public Works
Department has 17 full-time employees who provide residents and businesses with
a comprehensive network of public services, including storm sewer repair, street
and curb maintenance, guardrail repair and replacement, maintenance on signs,
snow and ice removal, and the planting and trimming of trees, shrubs and flowers
on municipal grounds.
Public Works Department office hours are 7:30 a.m.
to 4:30 p.m. September through May, and 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June through
August.

Garbage Collections
The City contracts with Rumpke Waste Collection to provide garbage
collection services to residents.
If you have large items for pickup,
such as chairs, carpet, mattresses, washers, etc., you need to call Rumpke in
advance of setting out the items.

Tell the customer respresentative what you have to set out and she will tell you
when they can pick it up or if there are any special instructions or
restrictions.
Leaf Collection
Leaf collections are
made by city crews in the fall. Contact the City's Administration Office at
(513) 733-3725 for more information.
Recycling
Curbside recycling is available through Rumpke; residents
should call Rumpke at (513) 851-0122 to contract for this service.
The
city does provide a recycling drop-off site at VYO/Haffey Fieldhouse; plastics,
metals and newspapers are accepted.
Yard waste such as branches, twigs
and leaves can be left at the curbside and picked up by the City at no charge;
call the City's Administration Office at (513) 733-3725 for more
information.
Snow Emergency
Either the Mayor or the
Safety Services Director can declare a snow emergency, which will be broadcasted
on local radio and television stations. While the snow emergency is in effect,
streets designated as snow emergency routes must be cleared of parked vehicles
so emergency crews can get through.
Additionally, motorists are
prohibited from operating vehicles on such streets if the vehicle is not
appropriately equipped. Motorists can be cited if their vehicles stall or get
stuck in the snow on snow emergency routes during a snow emergency.
City
officials urge residents to move their vehicles off snow emergency routes when
winter weather storms are predicted so vehicles do not get plowed in or
stranded.
Special Pick-up Service
Arrangements can be made for a truck to be left at your premises
overnight for especially large pick-ups. The first pick-up is $25 and the second
pick-up in the same year is $100 for residents. Businesses pay $100 per truck.
