Testing for Full-time Firefighter/Paramedic

The City of Reading, Ohio Civil Service Commission is testing to create an eligibility list for the full-time position of FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC with the Reading Fire Department.  The examination will be 9:00 a.m., May 11, 2019, in the City of Reading Council Chambers located at 1000 Market Street, Reading, Ohio 45215.  Physical agility testing will be conducted on May 18, 2019; more information to follow.

Applications are available HERE (application) or at the City General Offices, on the second floor of the Reading Municipal Building, Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Applications must be filed, in person, with the City Clerk by May 7, 2018, at 4:00 p.m.

NOTE: requests for the additional credit for military service (20% of passing grade), together with a DD-214 form confirming honorable discharge must be submitted with the application.

A valid Ohio Driver’s License must be presented on the day of testing, to sit for examination.

Starting pay is $54,468 annually.  Applicants hired with prior full-time, pensioned service and who have completed probation, will advance one pay step for each year of prior full-time service, up to a maximum of 5 steps; current top pay is $68,085 annually.

Applicants must have proof of Ohio Department of Public Safety Paramedic and Firefighter 2 (FF2) certifications at time of appointment; must obtain Ohio Fire Safety Inspector (FSI) certification within one year of appointment; must be able to pass a physical agility, medical physical, background investigation, and polygraph examination. A current valid Ohio driver’s license is required for appointment.
