Reading Youth Services Bureau

The Reading Youth Services Bureau has been providing low intensity mental health services to its residents and the surrounding communities since 1974. Reading Youth Services currently provides individual and family counseling to the residents of Reading, Blue Ash, and Montgomery, as well as the students enrolled in Reading Community Schools. Because these services are provided through either school or community based contracts, there is no charge to the families. In addition, counselors also provide educational trainings, peer support groups, crisis intervention, and other social work services.

Reading Youth Services also maintains an ongoing substance abuse program called YADEAP - Youth Alcohol & Drug Education & Assessment Program. It is a 20-hour weekend class which focuses primarily on educating youth about the dangers of substance use and abuse. The program contains peer discussuions, informative videos, group activities, and concludes with a risk screening by a licensed drug and alcohol counselor. The program requires some parental involvement, and takes place approximately every 4-6 weeks. YADEAP is open to anyone, regardless of their place of residence or school attended, who is either under the age of 18, or over the age of 18 if still enrolled in high school. There is cost of $100.00 associated with this service.

If interested in contacting these services for your school district or community, call Jeff Thamann at 733-5623 ext 2. If you have questions about the drug and alcohol program, also call Jeff. If interested in accessing the services listed above for Reading, please contact Nellie Smith at 733-5623 ext 4, and for Blue Ash or Montgomery, contact Jeff.

Reading Youth Services Bureau is located at 1223 Jefferson Ave.
