OUR PROGRAMS

The Reading Fire Department is dedicated to providing community education programs to the citizens in our community and the Village of Arlington Heights. These programs include:

Firehouse Tours are offered for groups interested in coming to the firehouse. Many of the same behaviors discussed in our fire prevention presentations are reinforced and time is spent explaining our operations/response/apparatus.

Smoke Detector Program which provides free smoke detectors and batteries to all residential occupancies where smoke detectors are not mandated. This includes free installation of detectors and battery replacement. Smoke detectors for the hearing impaired are also available.

CPR/First Aid Programs are available for the general public, civic groups, and the business community.

Single Family Fire Inspections are conducted upon request.

Hug-A-Bear Program which gives a stuffed animal to child who is injured or ill or involved in a tragic situation.

Prom Promise Program is a program that is available to the high schools prior to the annual prom. This program is coordinated along with the police department and school officials. The program addresses the danger of driving and alcohol.

Blood Pressure Screenings is available during normal operating hours at the Valley Station. Special screening programs can also be scheduled.

Knox® Box Program provides a a secure, rapid entry for the fire department. It’s a high-security box system, designed to give firefighters and emergency services immediate access to locked buildings, elevators, and other secured areas.

Knox Homebox™Knox® HomeBox™ Program provides homeowners with the same secure rapid access system that currently protects hundreds of thousands of government and commercial properties in over 13,500 fire jurisdictions across North America. When lives, safety and property matter, a Knox HomeBox can make all the difference. When seconds matter, count on Knox.

For residential property owners, at-risk residential occupants, and persons responsible for at risk occupants who need the ability to grant fire departments access to a residential property in an emergency without property damage, Knox® HomeBox™ is the most secure, residential-grade, key safe that is trusted and supported by your local fire department. Unlike “universal” or “realtor” residential-grade boxes that can be opened by anyone who has a common key or PIN, Knox HomeBox is a high security, weather-resistant key safe that can only be accessed by your fire department 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide peace of mind and safety to your property, loved ones, and pets.
