Police Officer Test Announcement

The City of Reading, Ohio Civil Service Commission is testing to create an eligibility list for the full-time position of PATROL OFFICER with the Reading Police Department.  A written examination will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 27th at the Reading Central School (Old St. Peter & Paul School) located at 416 W. Vine Street, Reading, Ohio 45215.  Applications are available at online HERE (application) or at the City General Offices, on the second floor of the Reading Municipal Building, Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Applications must be filed with the City Clerk by Thursday, April 18th, 2019, at 4:00 p.m.  Requests for the additional credit for military service (20% of passing grade), together with a DD-214 form confirming honorable discharge must be submitted at the time of application.   A valid Driver’s License must also be presented on the day of testing to sit for the examination.

All applicants must possess a current state certification from the Ohio Peace Officers Training Council upon completion of the hiring process, be 21 years of age or older, possess a valid Ohio Drivers License and be insurable.  Prior to appointment, candidates must be able to pass a background investigation, interview process, polygraph examination, psychological evaluation, a pension mandated physical examination and possess a valid Ohio Driver’s License.

Starting pay for the position is $55,921.84 annually.  Applicants hired with prior full-time municipal law enforcement road experience will advance one pay step for each year of said full-time experience, up to a maximum of 8 steps, which has a current top pay of $71,864.47 annually.  An excellent benefits package is provided including health, dental and eye, paid vacation days, personal days, paid holidays and many other benefits.
